Introducing Science to the Kids through Science Activities
from: ParentingKidsToday.comIt would always seem as an agreeable idea when somebody would profess that science exists and can be seen in our everyday lives. Nobody can ever make any argument from that.
Nowadays we are driven by technologies that are products of applying science into mechanisms. It is not to become an amazing phenomenon if ever there comes a time that we are no longer using wheels on cars but boosters or rocket fueled jet engines.
These are times where science has its own way of presenting every small innovation to the world. From big robots, fancy gadgets and those small medical apparatus, they all are innovations that science has brought forward.
Science is normally taught in school. The higher sciences are like Physics, Chemistry, Biology and other branches stemming from those three main divisions, the more assistance from a professional teacher is needed. Those subjects are very much interesting especially when teachers do things and activities that will surely be loved by the students.
Science subjects taught in school do not always focus on the theories. These subjects also give time wherein one is given a chance to discover and prove a certain theory by means of experimenting. Experimentation is one concrete science activity that will help one to learn science.
The very basic of science is the place or the surrounding you are in right now. There are so many things that you can learn from your surrounding by just looking at it or feeling it. Every bit of thing that you can see, you can touch, you can hear and you can taste can be associated with science. In fact, has concrete association with science.
These basics are the ones needed by the kids to learn. For sure, you will not allow your child to be playing with harmful chemicals to perform an experiment, or let him jump from a high cliff to prove that gravity is really 9.8 N/m. There are activities that can be done that can help your child learn science without jeopardizing his life. These activities are simple enough that you and your child can handle. You will not need any complicated science apparatus to make such activity. All you need to do is integrate science into everything that you see and your child observe.
Whenever you are at home with your child and your doing something in the kitchen or anywhere else, try to let your child take an observation. You can also do the integration when your child is doing his chores or while playing. Here are things you have to do to integrate science to your child when doing household activities:
- Entertain questions from your child. For example when your child is asking you why the knife can cut, answer him with the most honest possible answer that you can give him. Do not be afraid answering your child. Whenever your child asks you a question about something and you do not exactly know the answer, do not answer the question with, "I'm sorry, I do not know the answer". Instead of telling that phrase, try to let your child think for a while and then tell him to research and promise him that you will answer the question the next day.
- Play with things around your house and discuss on it. Just take note of the harmful things that you may encounter like knives, matches, etc. Take every possible precaution before using those things with your child.
- Give brief but precise explanation about a certain phenomena or a certain thing. It will help your child remember the theory very easily.
Science is a fun subject to learn. However, science can also be harmful to discover. Nothing can compare learning science without setting aside the precautions needed.
